\'Soft-evangelism\' in Addingham

St Peter's Addingham introduced a new element to this year's summer fair - an opportunity to find out about the church and the Christian faith.

One sun-drenched Saturday, alongside the usual cakes, plants, brass band, white elephants and Alpacas from Hart Animal Sanctuary, the work and life of the parish was included in a "come and find out more" tent  created by the curate, the Revd Andrew Howorth and the Rector, the Revd Jill Perrett.

Andrew Howorth said, "Each year we're amazed at the number of families who support this event, helping to raise money for a number of charities including Martin House Hospice, but we have struggled to help them make a connection with the Church.

"In the tent we had resources provided by the diocesan office, information about all our different activities, and a treasure hunt for families to complete together. Most of the clues were to be found inside the church.

"Over the afternoon 15 families spent time in our beautiful building, looking for Mousey Thompson mice and other clues. They all returned to 'bag their booty' (lollipops!) and they said how much they'd enjoyed spending some peaceful time together as a family in Church. Soft evangelism in action!"
