Christian singer Garth Hewitt has written and performed songs of peace and justice for 40 years, based on witnessing poverty, conflict, deprivation and disaster across the world.
Currently touring with his new album, Against the Grain, Garth will be at St Michael and All Saints', Haworth on Sunday, May 13.
Interwoven between the songs, Garth will tell how he came to write them, the journeys that led to them, and the people that inspired them.
Garth was a founder of the Greenbelt festival, and is also an Anglican priest, and honorary canon of St George’s Cathedral, Jerusalem. He established Amos Trust in 1985 to give voice to the untold stories of the forgotten communities he met during his singing and speaking engagements around the world and to pursue his commitment to justice and peace.
In the last 30 or so years Amos Trust has worked with groups in Palestine, South Africa and Nicaragua, promoting peace, development, reconciliation and justice. His songs reflect the spirituality and prayer that underpin Amos.
