On Tuesday 16th April the Community at Scargill House were visited by a team from Songs of Praise to do some filming for an episode to be screened on Sunday 5th May.
The team spent the whole day with the Community starting with prayers at 8am and leaving shortly after dinner to get to their next destination.
They filmed the Community and guests going about their day, worshipping, sharing coffee and eating. A regular past time at Scargill. In addition to the general business of the day they did a number of more in depth interviews with Community members, guests and those that lead the Community.
In the summer there will be a number of events to celebrate the 60 years of faithful ministry at Scargill House. The celebrations commence with a tour entitled “Tales of the Unexpected” featuring Adrian and Bridget Plass, Anna and Andreas Weister-Andersson and Phil and Diane Stone. The tour will visit four churches including St Paul's Shipley on Friday, June 7 and tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite.
Later in the month things continue with a weekend of celebration, fun, food and worship for invited guests at the house. This weekend is also an excellent opportunity for the Community to launch their development plans for the next stage of the adventure.
Finally, to round things off there is an open invitation for anyone to attend a service of thanksgiving for Scargill and the ministry of the Community at Bradford Cathedral on 31st August.
Phil Stone, director of Scargill House, said: "It has been a joy, yes, filled with challenges, to be part of the resurrection story of Scargill.
"As for the future, I pray that it will continue to be an adventure, not become settled or institutional, that Scargill will continue to be a Movement setting our sails to the breeze of the Holy Spirit.
"If I was to be asked ‘what that might look like?’ My answer is the same as 10 years ago: ‘I am not altogether sure’ yet what I am clear about is that we must always keep Jesus at the centre.
"Scargill is an adventure. It is challenging, stretching, joyful and a place where we can experience an encounter with our loving God. Bring it on!”
The Rt Revd Chris Edmondson, Chair of Trustees at Scargill House, said: “It has been a massive privilege to work alongside an amazing team for over ten years at Scargill, which has overseen it's restoration and it is now thriving like never before.
“It is great that Songs of Praise came along to help mark this special year of celebrations and we now pray that things will go from strength to strength at Scargill in the future.”
