Spirit of Christmas raises over £700 for the Ebola crisis.

The Spirit of Christmas came shining bright at a church in Barnsley and raised over £700 for the Ebola crisis.

Twenty five local community groups and businesses including the Young Farmers, the Museum Society, Cawthorne Ladies and the Explorers Group had decorated their own Christmas trees to create a stunning spectacle in the old church for the event.

Assistant priest in Darton and Cawthorne, Revd Jean Daykin said it was wonderful to see so many local groups take part, and the evening was a real community event with lots of people involved in the service.

The service on the theme of light was led by Revd  Jean and included two anthems by the Church choir and a treat from the Cawthorne Band and the speaker was a representative from Christian Aid who talked about the impact the Ebola crisis was having on those communities.

Revd Jean said: The church choir sang, the music was wonderful, the participation was really special, our theme of light was reflected in all of the trees and the speaker from Christian Aid, really brought home the message of light out of darkness.”

A cheque for £722 has now been sent to the Christian Aid Ebola Crisis fund.
