St Catherine’s Church and Centre has just won the Community Enterprise Award at the Wakefield Express Business Awards, organised by the local newspaper.
The Award was for enterprise that makes the biggest difference to local community while at same time achieves commercial success.
It rewards organisations that demonstrates grass roots involvement in local neighbourhood and has clear understanding of local environment it operates within.
St Catherine's was awarded the title for running a local food bank, providing help for those in Wakefield living beneath the poverty line.
Studies have shown that some Wakefield wards are among the most deprived areas in the country, so St Catherine’s provides aid for families before other social care procedures can be applied.
Revd Helen Collings, Priest in Charge, said, ‘We are really pleased to have received this award recognising the significant impact that the church makes to ordinary lives in this area. The award is testament to our volunteer team whose commitment to reaching out in love is at the core of all we do.’
These are just some of the volunteers who made the award possible:
The food bank can be accessed Monday to Friday between 11:00 and 13:00 at the church on Doncaster Road.
The bank relies on donations of non-perishable food items. For more information on making a donation, please visit: http://www.stcatherines-wakefield.org.uk/15.html
