St Catherine\'s church wins first prize in charity competition to launch new project

St Catherine’s Church has won first prize in the Tesco Bags of Help competition – for its latest Nourishment project - with almost 10,000 votes in seven days.

Project co-ordinator, Jonathan Williams, said he was overwhelmed at the support.

“This is wonderful news, it now means we can invest in a new website promoting the project, develop training opportunities for the service users of our large Recovery Cafe and afford all of the herbs, plants and equipment needed them to be able to blend and sell a range of teas, creams and ointments.”

“We are absolutely stunned at how much support the people of Wakefield and  The Five Towns have shown us.  Just to be shortlisted in the first-place was a huge honour, but to be given almost ten thousand votes over seven days is far more than we could ever have hoped for. It is humbling."

Nourishment will provide the chance for people suffering from depression to redevelop a disused community garden next to the church on Doncaster Road, grow produce and learn how to make creams, ointments and teas for sale in the district. All proceeds will go towards equipping people with skills for work.
