St Catherine\'s gets new wheels thanks to the Government

One of the last remaining elderly day care services in Wakefield has been given an early Christmas present after being awarded a new minibus from the Department of Transport.

The Elderly Day Care Centre run out of St Catherine’s Church Centre is one of three hundred recipients across the UK to benefit from this Government scheme and finally got the keys last week after an eighteen month wait.

Jonathan Williams, Project Manager who secured the vehicle said: “We had to wait a long time while the Government put the contract out to tender, but Minibus Options Ltd have done an absolutely splendid job of modifying the minibus for our needs.

“Funding for vehicles is notoriously hard to find, so we are absolutely delighted to have received this vehicle from the Government. Our Elderly Day Care Centre is one of the last remaining in the Wakefield District, and finding the money to purchase a state-of-the-art vehicle while still providing an affordable service would have been almost impossible’.

The Day Centre at St Catherine’s currently enables 100 elderly residents across Walton, Kettlethorpe, Outwood, Sandal, Altofts, Lofthouse, Newmillerdam and Sharlston to live in their own homes for longer, while providing respite to their loved ones and carers. The new minibus will now enable the charity to reach new areas, such as Featherstone.
