St Edmund’s opens Dementia Friendly Café

St Edmund’s Roundhay is opening a dementia friendly community café in April, and is looking for volunteers along with donations of teapots and music from the 50s and 60s.

Organiser, Jackie Treetops, says, “The Tea Cosy Café will be a place where people with dementia are made welcome and will feel cared for. With all the government cuts to the Council budget, more and more volunteers are needed to bring new services to the community. Dementia cafés provide a comfortable and supportive environment for people with dementia and their carers to socialise. We intend to provide activities such as singing for the brain, reminiscence, sharing stories and games and maybe dancing.

“We need volunteers to chat and listen, to make refreshments, and to share their interests, such as playing an instrument or sharing art work. We also need donations of old teapots and music from the 50s, 60s and 70s."

If you can help in any way, contact Bridget Hawkins, 07518 045133, Ted Fairfax on 0113 225 0510 or Jackie Treetops on 0113 237 0474.

The café will be open on the first Wednesday of the month from 11am-1.30pm and will provide tea, coffee and a light lunch.
