St Peter’s Church, Stanley, celebrated the tenth anniversary of their annual St Nicholas Parade service by collecting 250 presents to donate to Barnardos.
The service took place on Sunday 6th December and involved the collection of gifts to donate to the charity.
Eleanor Plant, Church Centre Administrator at St Peter's Church, says, “The service is well supported by the congregation and in particular the 1st Yorkshire Baden Powell Cubs and Scouts who always bring a huge number of gifts.
“This year we collected 250 presents which have been taken to Barnardos office in Leeds to be distributed as they see fit.
“All we ask is that people wrap the gifts and label whether they’re for a girl or boy and give a suggested age.
“We generally start collecting gifts the week before the service and they can continue to come in up to 2 weeks afterwards.”
The Church has been supporting the charity each Christmas since 2005, helping the charity bring a smile to children in need during the festive season.
Barnardos is a British charity which raises millions of pounds each year to help run around 900 services aimed at protecting and caring for vulnerable children across the UK including those who are victims of child poverty and domestic violence.
