Star Bakers at Great Guiseley Bake Off

Inspired by the BBC series, St Oswald’s Guiseley had its own version of the Great British Bake Off at its Spring Fair. The challenge was to bake a royal birthday cake, and cakes came in all shapes and sizes, from crowns to corgis.

Sandy Docherty, a contestant in the 2016 BBC series, was invited to judge the entries at St Oswald’s Primary School.

Sandy, who lives in Yeadon, says, “I really think baking is brilliant for everyone and can break down barriers. It’s creative and it’s fun, even if things go wrong!”

There were two classes, one for adults and one for under-16s.

The winner of the adult class was Louise Rix, a legal secretary in Leeds, with her crown (above).

The joint winners of the under-16’s bake were sisters Poppy and Lily Smith, with their two chocolate corgis (left and right).
