The clergy and staff of Ripon Cathedral were in competitive mood at the annual Pancake Day racing held in Ripon on Shrove Tuesday, February 9th.
Taking the lead (pictured left) is the Dean of Ripon, the Very Revd John Dobson, (centre) flanked by (l to r.) Canon Paul Greenwell,, Colin Belsey (Head Verger), Canon Ruth Hind and Canon Elizabeth Sewell.
This year the racing was started by the Mayor of Ripon Councillor Pauline McHardy, who is pictured (right) practising her pancake racing skills with Dean John Dobson, and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Peter Scrope.
Young people from local schools within Ripon & the Rural Area together local businesses, charities, and civic leaders also took part. Pictured (left) are children from Ripon Cathedral Primary School.
The Annual Ripon Pancake Race is organised by Ripon Festivals in conjunction with Ripon Rotary Rowels and is now in its eighteenth year having been revived in 1998 by Ripon Festivals and the Cathedral.
All those participating also received a certificate provided by Ripon Rotary Rowels / CNG GAS with a Cadbury Cream Egg from Hemingways. The pancakes were supplied by the 21st Ripon Regiment of the Army.
