Tasty snacks key part of new after-school service

Young Christians in the Ripon area have been enjoying tasty snacks and worship as part of a new service at St Robert’s Pannal.
Some ninety people attended the church’s first ‘Crumpet Church’ service, a new child-friendly worship service straight after school that starts with a snack, followed by a short active church service.
The Revd John Smith, vicar, said: “I would have been delighted to get ten or more turn up but we were rather overwhelmed in many ways when ninety turned up!”
The service came about because of the church’s commitment to goal 5 of the diocesan strategy, ‘Growing young people as Christians’.
They felt the church could do more to support young people, so, after much conversation and prayer, figures in the church felt the call to start something new.
St Robert’s’ curate, Revd Abbie Palmer, came up with its name, and co-led the service.
She said: “God’s spirit was truly moving in this place, we couldn’t have asked for more!”
