Wakefield Cathedral will be giving out free tea, coffee and porridge next Friday morning as it launches its Tea for You campaign for the summer.
Tea for You is a season of events at Wakefield Cathedral to mark the relaunch of its reinvigorated Cathedral Kitchen and Shop and includes afternoon teas served every Saturday in July and a tea dance, a teddy bears picnic and trail for families in August.
Tea for You goes to the heart of the Cathedral’s Christian principles: to be a place of welcome, hospitality and invitation in the heart of the city. And plays on the fact that we are in Yorkshire – and a cup of tea is at the centre of all our daily lives.
The Dean, the Very Revd Jonathan Greener said: “We are having a summer of Tea For You. We will be inviting everyone to celebrate welcome and hospitality at Wakefield Cathedral.”
Over the past few months the Cathedral Kitchen and Shop, both inside the Treacy Hall, have had an overhaul with new menus using locally sourced produce, a new speciality coffee machine and daily specials on offer throughout the week. The shop has also had a makeover and can now boast a new collection of gifts including a range of sweet shop favourites.
Pop Up Cathedral will be in the Cathedral Yard on Friday June 2 serving free tea, coffee and porridge from 9am.
Free tea and coffee vouchers will then be available throughout summer from Welcomers in the Cathedral, at events and services and at some selected shops and businesses in the city.
As part of the season, Afternoon Tea will be served in the Cathedral Kitchen every Saturday throughout July from 2.30 -4pm. There will be a tea dance with Pamela Greener at 3pm on August 5 (Tickets £5 available in the Cathedral/Gift Shop)
And there will be a Teddy Bear’s tea party on the Cathedral steps and an afternoon trail for families in the Cathedral on 12 August from 2.30pm -3.30pm as part of the council’s Seaside in the City.
