During the day lots of people turned up with tins or bags of food or just stopped to find out more.
Free pancakes were served from 10 to 11.30pm and the Cathedral curate, the Revd Tim Stevens, pictured here showing off his pancake tossing skills, was serving free tea and coffee out of the back of the mobile Cathedral and the Canon Precentor the Revd Leah Vasey Saunders was around to talk to people about the campaign and help them with prayers.
Wakefield Cathedral launched its Giving Campaign to coincide with Pancake Day and the season of Lent, and asked that local people, schools, churches and local businesses join in and bring donations of food that will be distributed round some of the city’s local foodbanks.
By the end of the event, the food collected was loaded into the mobile pop up Cathedral to take to local foodbanks and a shopping trolley was left in the Cathedral for people to donate throughout Lent.
