Thanksgiving service in the lambing shed

Lambing service in RibblesdalePictured are the Revd Stephen Dawson and Rosie Wilson of St Oswald's Church Horton in Ribblesdale together with a  Blue-faced  Leicester at the annual Lambing Service.

Back in December 2014, five year old Rosie became the parishes ‘Bairn Bishop’ , a medieval custom which was revived by the church.

She had a big role to play in the Lambing Service which was held at the Bank Holiday weekend in the Lambing Shed at Newhouses Farm in the hills above Horton, the home of sheep-farmers  Geoff and Jeanette Davidson. Jeanette is Churchwarden at St Oswald's.

Twenty seven people of all ages gathered to give thanks for the healthy crop of lambs in Feeding the lambsRibblesdale. Farmers John Dawson of Clapham (Stephen’s brother) and Ted Wilson of Selside (Rosie’s brother) spoke about the pleasures and pitfalls of lambing time – and afterwards there were cakes to eat, and pet lambs to feed.
