Miracles, demons and a mustard seed all feature in a dramatic retelling of the story of the Gospel of Mark which takes place in Ripon this month.
Expert storyteller Ian Birkinshaw, from York, has given this performance a hundred times across the UK and it takes place on Sunday, September 15 at Holy Trinity Church at 7.00pm.
The organiser, David Butterfield, said, “I went to see this in Masham last year and I was so impressed that I wanted to bring it to Ripon.
"The story is brought to life in an amazing way. It is completely different from reading it or hearing it in bite-size chunks.”
The first half is action-packed and fast-moving with Jesus performing miracles and healings and encountering lots of different people. After the interval, the mood changes as the clouds gather and those opposed to Jesus plot to do away with him.
After the horror of Good Friday, the story ends with the most astonishing twist-in-the-tale that the world has ever known.
The drama is accompanied throughout by quiet, live music played on acoustic guitar by Ian’s son, Peter.
