The legacy of the Windrush Generation and the Black Lives Matter movement will feature in a national Church of England streamed service to be broadcast on Sunday, June 21.
Fr Andrew Maughtin-Mumby from St Peter’s Walworth, London, will lead the 9am service and offer both inspiration and challenge, said Revd Brunel James, of Cleckheaton.
“Fr Andrew is a colleague of mine in the “Windrush Group” who are working to combat institutional racism,” Revd Brunel said.
“We helped pass a motion at General Synod which acknowledged the contribution of the “Windrush Generation” to British life and pledged to ensure that the CofE will learn from the mistakes of the past and fully welcome and empower Black And Minority Ethnic (BAME) Christians within our church.”
He said Fr Andrew’s service, available on the CofE Facebook page and on Youtube, will respond to the “Black Lives Matter” movement and will also invite local churches to mark Windrush Day (Monday June 22) by celebrating Caribbean heritage.
