This sporting life for rural vicar

Not content with the usual coffee morning fundraisers, the vicar  of Clapham with Keasden, Austwick and Eldroth, Canon Ian Greenhalgh put his sporting skills to the test once again to raise funds for his churches.

He devised his own three day duathlon - persuaded his son to join him - and together the two of them set off last Monday to run round Coniston, cycle round Keswick and run up Skiddaw.

No newcomer to this sporting life - this is Ian's 12th fundraising event - every year he takes on a new challenge - and can even count marathons in Athens and Venice in there.

His aim each year is to raise between three and four thousand pounds - and this year he says he has raised almost £5,000 with Gift Aid and he iintends the money to be spent on new kitchen and toilet facilities.

Said Ian: "We had a great three days - 15-17th - Skiddaw and Keswick
area on Monday, run and walking. Tuesday it was cycling for around 5 hours round
the Keswick area taking in a visit to Cockermouth and day 3 - we did the Coniston area
and Old Man run and walk.

"And we raised well over £4,000 which is marvellous. Thank you to everyone who supported us," he added.

Any donations can be sent direct to Ian at The Vicarage, Austwick LA2 8BE.
