Thornhill Organist retires after 60 years of Church service

SAD News- only three weeks after his appointment as Organist Emeritus (see story to follow) Peter Middleton has died after a fall and a short stay in hospital. Love and prayers to Marjorie and the whole family at this time.

Organist of 60 years who has served in a number of churches across the Diocese retired at the service of Nine Lessons and Carols at Thornhill Parish Church during the Christmas period.

Peter Middleton with those at the servicePeter Middleton had served at Thornhill Church for 20 years and was honoured with the title of Organist Emeritus at the service on Sunday the 20th December.

Peter has also served at Brighouse Parish Church and St John’s, Cleckheaton, among others in the Huddersfield Area of the Diocese.

The Thornhill Parish Church website reads, “A lifetime of service to the Church and many thousands of singers – [Peter] was also Head of Music at Whitcliffe Mount School for many years.Peter being presented with the photographs

“Thank you Peter - and your helpmate and wife Marjorie.

“In honour of his service he was appointed Organist Emeritus and presented with photographs of the two churches he most recently served.”
