The Mothers’ Union’s 3000 members across the diocese have been lighting candles and praying for fellow members across the world this week as the diocese takes its turn in a world-wide ‘Wave of Prayer’.
From Sunday 8th January until Tuesday 10th January the Diocese of Leeds Mothers’ Union has picked up the baton from the Diocese of Norwich and taken part in a continuous 24/7 prayer commitment for branches around the world which began in 1921. The Wave of Prayer has now moved on to the Docese of Winchester.
Special services were held in Mothers’ Union branches and diocesan MU members asked to particularly pray for the Diocesan link branches in Rwanda, Nigeria, Lesotho and the Soloman Islands (see map)..
Jean Thurman, the Mothers’ Union Diocesan President, said, “Our Diocesan Chaplain, Ven Peter Townley, has often said that our MU Wave of Prayer is “fantastic”. From a gathering under a tree in Africa to the grandest cathedral, members are praying.
“We are asked to bless the work of all Christian charities, remembering particularly Mothers’ Union members who reach out in prayer to families across the globe.”
Prayers and service material has been produced and is published on the diocesan website here.
