Tom Wright to speak at Harrogate

International lecturer, theologian  and former Bishop of Durham, Rt Revd Dr Tom Wright, will be visiting Harrogate as part of a new season of lectures and seminars from the Harrogate School of Theology and Mission.

The author of over seventy books, Tom Wright is highly regarded in academic and theological circles. He is now Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at St Andrew’s University, and is one of a number of visiting speakers - including the Bishop of Ripon, Dr Helen-Ann Hartley- who have been announced in the new 2018/19 programme which begins next month.

Harrogate School of Theology and Mission was launched five years ago to provide theological and biblical training for clergy and lay people alike.

This year’s programme  kicks off on Saturday 15th September with a thought-provoking session led by Gavin D’Costa (pictured below) who is Professor of Catholic Theology at Bristol University. Prof D’Costa’s will speak on Christian-Jewish relations: new and difficult questions.

Tom Wright will speak at St Mark’s Harrogate on Saturday 12 January 2019 on the subject, “Space, time and history: Jesus and the challenge of God.”

Bishop Helen-Ann will be at St Mark’s Harrogate on March 23 to lecture on the subject, “To read, mark, learn and inwardly digest: some reflections on a diet of Biblical interpretation.”

Live lectures are £8 per morning, or season ticket £25 for the series of four.  Included in the cost is continental breakfast served from 9.30 am, with the formal session beginning at 10.00 am. See www.hstm.org.uk for full details
