Some 200 pupils engaged with the start of Lent during a special communion and ashing service at St Michael and All Angels CE Primary School, Shelf, in the Bradford Episcopal Area.
Revd Andy Greiff conducted the service and said: "As well as finding out about what the season of Lent means to Christians, almost 200 pupils had the choice to take part and have a cross of ash put on their foreheads.
"Nearly all the pupils and teachers chose to take part in the ashing ceremony which was really lovely and encouraging."
Head teacher Claire Berry added: "Staff and pupil enjoyed a Lent Eucharist and the children reflected on how to be better young people during Lent."
