A weekend-long celebration to toast 200 years of faithful worship at Holy Trinity, Huddersfield, is open to one and all.
All the clergy, musicians and congregations of the churches in Huddersfield are invited to events and a special Evensong next month.
Revd Mike Wilkins and churchwarden Andy Barber are hosting this ecumenical event on Sunday, September 22.
“We would like to invite our neighbouring churches to celebrate with us in worship,” Andy said.
“At 3pm we are having a 'Come and Sing Evensong’ workshop followed by a service.
“Evensong has not been sung at Holy Trinity for over 30 years, but was once a key element of our church's musical worship and Holy Trinity was once renowned for its choral singing.
“We wish to recognise our musical heritage and recreate something of it to mark our birthday.
“We’ll discover (or rediscover!) how to sing Anglican chant and the beautiful responses of the Book of Common Prayer, before holding a service of Evensong at 4.30pm,” he said.
No previous musical experience is required and people may just come and enjoy the rich music and liturgy.
Throughout the weekend starting Friday, September 20, the church will also be offering guided tours of its crypt and tower, plus lots of fun activities for children and families.
