Vicar climbs 3 peaks - dressed as 7th century king

The Revd David Pickett walked the three Yorkshire Three Peaks dressed as the patron saint of his church in Guiseley - St Oswald - to raise funds for the church's tower fund.

Father David, a former Flight Commander at RAF Halton, hit the first peak at 8.30am on 5 August, St Oswald’s day.

David's also a former member of the RAF’s Mountain Rescue Team at RAF Leeming, so is trained for every eventuality, but had never been on a mission in 7th century regal costume before.

He said, “It was certainly an interesting experience, climbing while carrying a sword and wearing a crown and tunic. I also stopped and prayed at the top of every peak.

"I'm very grateful for the generous sponsorhsip that will go towards the cost of repairs to the tower which will be around £80,000".
