Vicar swaps pulpit for pantomime

This year St John the Evangelist Golcar will go to the ball thanks to the writing skills of their new vicar, Fr Simon Crook.
The church has a long history of staging community pantomimes, and Fr Simon was keen for the tradition to continue, so when no one else volunteered to produce a script this year he decided to write his first ever stage production, Cinderella.
Used to wearing his vicar’s frock, he had no trouble writing the parts of the ugly sisters “Bella and Donna”, played by Ian Taylor and Kiff Bamford, who have stepped into their roles (and their own frocks) admirably.
Cinderella herself is portrayed by Ash-Lee Heap who comes to life on the stage ably supported by the rest of the cast.
Fr Simon said: “This church has such good links with the community and it was really important for this to continue with Cinderella.
“Our cast and volunteers are a mixture of church members and other local people and it is wonderful for us all to come together, put on a great show and entertain the crowds.
“It gives me great pleasure to say that Cinderella and Golcar, will go to the ball!”
The show is being directed by Sam Crook, Simon’s wife, and the first performance is on 5th December.
Tickets are on sale for £5 for adults and £1 for accompanied children and can be bought in advance or at the door.
