Wakefield Interfaith group put its best foot forward for diversity and freedom over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The Wakefield Interfaith group – set up on 2011 made up of Baha'i, Brahma Kumaris, Christians, Muslims, Unitarians and Pagans – organized their first walk of friendship through the city which started off at the mosque in Grange Street and walked to the Cathedral via the Unitarian Chapel.
It is the first walking event for this group and they hope to make it an annual summer walk.
The Rt Revd Tony Robinson, Bishop of Wakefield said: “We wanted to show a united front between different faith communities in Wakefield especially in light of the recent visits to the city by the English Defence League and the National Front.
“So on Saturday, a group of nearly fifty people from different faiths walked through Wakefield on a Walk of Friendship taking in the local mosque the Unitarian Chapel and the Cathedral.
“It was a very good witness to the people of Wakefield,” he added.
The group will hold their next meeting on 30 Sept at 7pm in St Austins, Wentworth Terrace when they will discuss yearly festivals from different faith perspectives.
And on Sun 18 October there will be a peace gathering at Wakefield Unitarian Church at 3pm.
All are welcome - from those of faith and no faith.
