WANTED: Children to find lost sheep in city and bring them to the Cathedral

Children are being asked to help find a herd of sheep which has lost its way in some of the shops in the city of Wakefield and bring them back to the Cathedral in time for Christmas.

This week the Dean of Wakefield, the Very Revd Jonathan Greener and the Mayor of the city, Coun Sandra Pickin, will officially launch the Messy Cathedral Nativity Sheep Trail.

Children can pick up a copy of the trail from the Cathedral or the Cathedral coffee shop. It asks them to help find the knitted sheep in some of the city centre shops. The children have to find the sheep, find their names and then write these down on the trail leaflet and post it in the Cathedral prize draw box for the chance to a prize – including a family ticket to Canon Hall Farm this Christmas.

Shops signed up include Waterstones, Mocha Moocha, the Wakefield Visitor Centre , CAM music and Created in Yorkshire.

The trail is part of the Messy Cathedral initiative to make church experience fun for all the family. There will be a Messy Church event in the Cathedral when all the lost sheep will be returned on Mon 22 Dec. The event will include crafts, a soup lunch and worship and is open to all families from 10 -12noon and is free.

Community missioner, Heidi Smith said: “We wanted to help families make a little space to think about the real meaning of Christmas in the busyness of everything and to have some fun and we are looking forward to welcoming people to Messy Cathedral and the other services and events in the Cathedral at this time.”
