An appeal to provide Christmas presents for single homeless people in the Wakefield area has been launched this week by a homeless charity run by Wakefield Cathedral.
The Wakefield Rent Deposit Scheme – which helps single homeless people to find somewhere to live and regain control of their lives – is holding its annual Christmas Party in Wakefield Cathedral on December 22 and is appealing for help to give every one a Christmas present.
Julie Burnham, manager of the Wakefield Rent Deposit Scheme, said: “There’s nothing better than giving and receiving at Christmas, so we hope very much that the people of Wakefield will feel they can support this worthwhile cause.”
Dinner will be provided by donations including turkey and all the trimmings – thanks to the Food Bank Network, courtesy of the Community Awareness Programme. Barbers from the Urban Quarter, a barber’s shop in Cross Square Street, Wakefield, has donated hair-cuts for the New Year and the WRDS are looking for other generous sponsors to make a Christmas to remember.
Anyone who can help, please drop gifts of chocolates and toiletries to the vergers in Wakefield Cathedral BEFORE December 22. Please note, no alcohol.
If any business wants to donate or help, please contact Julie on j.Burnham@wrds.org.uk
