Winter Prom to showcase Cathedral\'s choral talent

Ripon Cathedral is launching a new Winter Prom to showcase its array of musical talent and provide an opportunity for children in the region to get a glimpse of life as a chorister.

The prom includes a free concert of family favourites including music from Disney’s Frozen and dances from the Nutcracker Suite – with live animations and refreshments (including mulled cider) available beforehand.

The cathedral choir, organists, the cathedral youth choir Unity Voices and the junior choir will all be performing - together with children invited to come along for ‘the choir experience.’

If you have a child aged six to 11 who likes to sing you can sign up for the event at singing@riponcathedral.org.uk  Not only will children get to sing alongside our cathedral choristers but mums, dads and carers can chat to current choir parents about what life for a chorister and their family is like.

Director of Music Andrew Bryden said: “Our amazing choir has gone from strength to strength. This summer we had a hugely successful tour of Germany and extremely high attendances for our carol services over Christmas – with standing room only at two of them.

“The Winter Prom provides an exclusive look behind the scenes of the music department and staff will be on hand to chat to parents about what’s on offer. We now have lots of opportunities for children from Year 1 upwards including free singing and music theory lessons.

“As well as first class musical training choristers enjoy sports days, fun days out, sleepovers and party nights all within a caring and nurturing environment. There are also plenty of social events for parents.”

The Winter Prom runs from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at Ripon Cathedral on Saturday January 18.
