Work continues to build new places of prayer and worship in city centres

Inside of Holy Trinity Boar Lane, with scaffolding up.Work is continuing at two city centre churches looking to bring worship and prayer to the heart of Bradford and Leeds. Inside of Fountains Church Bradford, with building works ongoing.
Fountains Church Bradford and Holy Trinity Boar Lane in Leeds are both churches who are being funded by the Church of England’s Strategic Development Fund (SDF) to bring new and different ways of worship to the two cities.
Fountains Church Bradford will be based out of the Glydegate Square complex in the centre of the city, once home to the Revolution nightclub, with building work currently ongoing to convert the building.
The Revd Linda Maslen, Church Leader at Fountains Church Bradford, said: “Things are progressing really well, we are starting to see the shape of our worship space and cafe emerging out of the shell.
“We are hoping that the handover date will be at the end of October and we are planning a series of launch events on the weekend of the start of Advent!”
The Holy Trinity Boar Lane project aims to turn the church into a place for weekday worship for those who commute to and work in Leeds city centre.
Building work there is also ongoing.
The Revd Sam Corley, Rector of Leeds, said: “There’s been a church on Boar Lane since 1727, and it’s currently undergoing works sponsored by the SDF to turn it into a centre for worship and prayer for people who work in the city centre.
“The organ has gone, the windows are being replaced, some of the painting and lights have been done, there’s new heating, new flooring and audio/visual equipment going in.
“Hopefully works shall be finished by the end of November, with activities starting early in 2021.”
