Shared global faith will be celebrated this weekend when Anglican Communion Sunday takes place on May 24.
On that day in particular, all Anglicans are invited to pray for our worldwide family of worshippers, especially those in our unique network of link dioceses in Sudan, Tanzania, Sri Lanka and South West Virginia, USA.
“Anglican Communion Sunday is an opportunity for us as a diocese to remember our links across the world, and to give thanks for our life together and pray especially for these various communities particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Bishop of Ripon, the Rt Revd Dr Helen-Ann Hartley.
All are invited to pray for:
- Members of the Anglican Communion around the world
- The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd Justin Welby, and all primates and bishops
Members of the Anglican Consultative Council - The Secretary General, The Most Revd Dr Josiah Idowu-Fearon
- The staff at the Anglican Communion Office in London and the UN offices in Geneva and New York
Bishop of Kirkstall, the Rt Revd Paul Slater, has highlighted the retirement of the Bishop of Colombo, Bishop Dhilo Canagasabey (pictured with Bishop Nick), who leaves his role this weekend, after some 10 years service.
“Bishop Dhilo has led the Anglican Church in Sri Lanka with real, sacrificial love,” Bishop Paul said.
“He is highly regarded for how he has spoken out in his public role as Bishop and I greatly value how he doesn’t shy away from standing up for gospel values.
“He has always had an affection for Leeds and subsequently our diocesan link, since he first came to the city in the 1990s and we are grateful for his lasting friendship.”
