St John’s Church, Yeadon, have brightened Christmas for children in the care of Leeds Social Services after holding their annual Toy Service at the beginning of December.
The event, held on the first Sunday of December, has run for several Christmases and asks the congregation to bring new, unwrapped toys to the church.
This year's service saw the donation of over 100 presents which were gathered and given to the children in the care of Leeds Social Services as Christmas presents.

Revd Beverley Sproats, Assistant Curate at St John’s, says, “It is an opportunity to give to others as we remember the reason for the season - that God gave his son, Jesus, to us as a gift on the first Christmas.”
The image on the right shows Ivan Sproats, aged nine, a member of St John’s congregation, with the toys collected at the service.
Revd Beverley adds, “We also held a Carol Service on the 20th December and we are looking forward to celebrating Christmas with several services over the next few weeks: Christingle service at 3pm and 5pm on 24th December; Midnight Communion at 11.30pm on Thursday 24th December; and an All-age Christmas Celebration at 10.00am on 25th December.
“We are also running a children’s Christmas Crafts morning on Tuesday 22nd December 10am-12pm.”
