A class of 7 and 8 year olds from St Peter’s CE school in Leeds quizzed Bishop Paul Slater this week at a ‘meet the bishop’ session at Leeds Minster.
They wanted to know what type of training he did, why he wears a cross and a ring, who are God’s mum and dad, how many churches he ‘owns’ and whether he wanted to be a bishop when he was a teenager, to which he replied that he’d originally considered 
becoming a doctor.
There were some budding theologians among them. One seven year old girl asked Bishop Paul what his favourite bible verse is. When he told her it was Jeremiah 29:5-7 (about buildng houses and getting involved in the city), she 
said, “But what’s your favourite New Testament verse? Mine’s Philippians 4:4 ‘Rejoice in the Lord always’.” He repied that it was John 3:16. She said, “I know that what that is: ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his only son . . . “
Other activities included dressing up in child-size mitres and copes and pretending to do a Thought for the Day broadcast. Their thoughts included, ‘Don’t kill anyone’, ‘don’t trip anyone over’ and ‘don’t ignore people’.
