St George\'s Crypt celebrates 90 years

A well-known Leeds charity that supports homeless and vulnerable adults has been celebrating its 90th birthday this week. 
On October 14 St George’s Crypt Leeds launched a virtual year of birthday thanksgiving, as physical events are not possible at the moment.
As part of the proceedings, a pre-recorded message from Hilary Benn MP was shared across the Crypt’s social media channels and, during the months of October and November, the Crypt will be premiering similar messages of support and thanks from well-known people across Leeds and beyond including Tom Riordan, CEO of Leeds City Council, Stephan Cottrell, Archbishop of York, Ed Anderson, Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire and many more.
Working in collaboration with Yorkshire Film Archive the Crypt will be showcasing archived footage, showing that while methods, resources and skills in combatting homelessness may have changed, the root causes of vulnerability and deprivation have stayed the same.
Working with local Leeds web design agency Few & Far, design agency Aire Design and photographic studio Powerhouse Productions the Crypt has brought together Leeds talent to highlight the work they do. 
The birthday saw the launch of a brand-new website that brings these agencies talents together.
The Crypt has also released a book, titled ‘Entertaining Saints’, written by Crypt chaplain Revd Roger Quick.
It is a collection of stories and happenchance from his years of service and relationship with the charity.
St George’s Crypt CEO, Chris Fields, said: “In these difficult times, when everyone has had to cancel, postpone and change their plans, it is brilliant to see the city getting behind us. 
“Thanks to technology we are still able to share and celebrate in a way we would never have been able to do before, and we want to thank everyone who continues to support us.”
