TEND event in Wakefield supports youth ministry

Over 50 people who work with children and young people gathered at St George’s Lupset recently to be thanked, equipped, network and work out what they can do next.

TEND events are run by the diocesan Children, Young People and Families Team, and aim to thank those involved in ministry with children and young people, equip them in that work, provide opportunities for networking and set people up for what they will do in their ministry next.

The events aim to encourage those involved in this important area of work, building confidence to support their ministry.

The event in Lupset featured a keynote speech from Huw Thomas, Director of Education for the Diocese of Sheffield, who then led a workshop unpacking using literary techniques to explore Bible stories.

The Revd Laya Watters, curate at Holy Trinity Idle in the Bradford area, led a workshop on trauma informed stories, thinking about how best to share the Good News of Jesus with those who have experienced trauma in their lives.

The Rt Revd Malcolm Chamberlain, Bishop of Wakefield, attended, and led a closing act of worship at the end of the day.

The focus of the TEND events this year has been ‘Sharing Stories’, with all parts of the day providing opportunities to explore the various angles of that theme – including storytelling with children, listening to young people, and sharing stories with the wider church.

The event also featured refreshments, discussions and a marketplace of organisations that support this ministry in parishes.
