The Diocese of Leeds is seeking to appoint a Director of Education to serve as the lead officer for the Diocesan Board of Education, fulfilling the statutory role of Diocesan Director of Education.
The Director of Education should have significant experience of senior leadership in educational contexts with the ability to manage major organisational change. The postholder must have a thorough understanding of the national education agenda and how this impacts on church schools and academies.
The Diocesan Board of Education has the responsibility for the learning of over 64,000 children within the 236 Church of England schools and academies, many of which are part of our 11 Church Academy Trusts. The post holder must have outstanding communication and negotiation skills with the ability to be sensitive to the different cultures and traditions within the schools.
The Diocesan Board of Education has recently approved a new five-year strategy which sets the following priorities in which the Director will lead on:
The development of Christian leadership and vision for education, including influencing policy and practice regionally and nationally.
Improving the quality of education across our Diocese, especially in our Church Schools and in RE.
Strengthening partnerships between schools, churches and households, as well as with other Diocesan departments, and so helping to transform lives and communities.
The package includes a competitive salary, flexi-time scheme, an 8% non-contributory pension with an additional 5% matched contributions, hybrid working (50%), and 30 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays and four customary days a year (between Christmas and New Year).
