Advent stories across the diocese to be showcased on social media

Advent unfurls from this weekend and the worship and activities of five diverse groups across our diocese will be shared on diocesan social media platforms in the four weeks until Christmas.

St Peter’s and St Leonard’s, Horbury, All Hallows, Leeds, St Peter’s Harrogate, All Saints, Ilkley and young singers from Halifax Minster will all be posting on Facebook, Twitter using #leedscofeadvent.

Fr Chris Johnson and worshippers at Horbury will be posting details of their traditional journey through Advent and they have been busy leafletting the local area to advertise services and celebrations.

He talks about the warm welcome that awaits people at their Christingle and carol services and can be seen in a new video which you can watch here.

Revd Heston Groenewald’s Real Junk Food Project at All Hallows uses rescued food to provide fantastic community meals throughout the year, culminating with a slap-up Christmas Day dinner.

And this year will see something a little different on the third Sunday in Advent.

“We're doing a 'Flash Mob Nativity' on Sunday morning, December 15 - which should be chaotic and crazy and cool!” Revd Heston said.

They also plan to take over the diocesan Instagram page on Christmas Day to document the joy of a very special shared meal.

Young people at All Saints’, Ilkely will be looking at the story of Advent throughout the coming weeks and will feature with video clips of their discussions on the meaning of Christmas.

Singing practices in preparation for Advent and Christmas concerts, plus the wonderful events themselves will feature in social media video clips and comments, courtesy of young members of Halifax Minster’s renowned choir.

St Peter’s, Harrogate sits in the heart of the famous spa town and is well-known for its outreach work with marginalised and disadvantaged people who live in one of Yorkshire’s wealthiest places.

Vicar Alan Garrow and his team will catalogue their Advent programme of events and activities by linking their social media output to the diocesan media platforms of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Everyone is welcome to use #leedscofeadvent, if you have a Christmas story you would like sharing.
