Crypt artists enjoy a Yorkshire Day out

St George’s Crypt Art Group in Leeds took part in a Yorkshire Day parade on August 1st at Lotherton Hall, thanks to a banner they’ve created.

The banner includes words relating to how members of the art group, all homeless or vulnerable clients, viewed the Crypt and homelessness. “It helped  create a poignant image of recovery”, said one of the staff.

A spokesperson for St George’s Crypt said, “We had a presence in the festival with a stall and participated in the cake baking competition.

“This isn’t only about a good day out; our guys are some of the most vulnerable and marginalised in Leeds and through participation, engagement and creation of the artwork we can support them to reduce their isolation, build self-confidence and re-engage with the community.”

The Crypt has continued to develop new and innovative ways of helping homeless and vulnerable people in recent years and has built up partnerships across the city and region to help it in its work.

The banner was created in partnership with East Street Arts, a Leeds based arts charity which helps support artists and charities in developing art projects. “Working with East Street Arts has been very rewarding,” the charity said.
