Some 15 Parish Environment Officers are going into their parishes prepared to help make their churches environmental leaders in their local area, after completing the Diocese of Leeds’s Creation Salvation course.
At the last session the participants were commissioned in their work by the Rt Revd Paul Slater, Bishop of Kirkstall and the diocese’s lead bishop on environmental matters.
The course provided an opportunity to equip people to deliver an effective creation care ministry in parishes, and looked to support them in making a positive impact on the environment by drawing up a zero carbon action plan and making progress towards an Eco Church award.
It was hosted by the Revd Ruth Newton, parish priest of St John’s Sharow, a Silver Eco-church with an award-winning biodiverse churchyard, and our Diocesan Environment Officer Jemima Parker.

The course will be running twice more this autumn: on Tuesday mornings in September, and on Thursday evenings in November.
