Heritage Weekend with TV\'s \'Sewing Soldier\' at Halifax Minster

900 years of history comes alive at Halifax Minster during its Heritage Weekend next month, with activites and performances day and night including a Sans Illuminaire.

"Sewing Solder" Lt Col Neil Stace, a finalist in the Great British Sewing Bee, will give expert tuition during family sewing workshops in the mornings and afternoons starting on Thursday, September 6.

He is bringing the "100 Hearts for 100 Years" project, in ald of the Armed Forces charity SSAFA, to the Minster.

The project is based on the military Love Heart pin cushions created during the First World War.

As well as raising funds for SSAFA, it tells how troops used sewing to combat the psychological traumas of trench warfare.

The workshops cost £5 per person, children free and there is also a free evening talk "Sewing on the Front Line" by Lt Col Stace on Thursday, Sept 7 at 7pm.

The Sans Illuminaire (right) is an exclusive evening event in which characters from its amazing 900 year history are brought to life and tell their personal stories in the dramatic setting of the candllelit Minster.

It takes place on Friday, September from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and tickets are available on line, priced at £5.28.

Other Heritage Weekend events included visits to the Bell Tower, guided tours of the Minster and Hidden Gems tours.
