Mother\'s Union on the move

Six members of the Mother's Union in Huddersfield have completed a walking challenge to raise money for the work of the Mother's Union worldwide.

The intrepid members set out at the end of June to undertake the circular walk, which took them along the Huddersfield Greenway and the Huddersfield Broad Canal.

The walk was inspired by the Mother's Union Summer of Hope Appeal, which aims to celebrate the opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary achievements of the organisations founder Mary Sumner, who passed away a hundred years ago, and to continue her incredible work, through prayer, creativity and giving.

"Our original plan was to raise at least £145 by completing a 5k walk," said Elaine Swinhoe, the Huddersfield Area President for the Mother's Union.

"On the way we admired wildflowers, watched boats on the canal and did lots of chatting to catch up on news – always obeying social-distancing rules of course!

"At the time of writing £764 has been donated, which is far more than we had hoped for and my JustGiving page is still open.

"We are hugely grateful to all those who donated and we know that the money will be used to support families throughout the world."
