The Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Leeds has great pleasure in announcing that Elaine Swinhoe will be the new Diocesan President for the Triennium running 2022-24.
We’ve asked Elaine to introduce herself, which you can read below.
Elaine says: “My name is Elaine Swinhoe, and I am married to Terry who is a retired vicar.
“We have lived in Yorkshire for the last 34 years, in three different parishes, before moving to Bradley in Huddersfield.
“I have three married sons, two of whom were born in Manchester and one in Birmingham and at present I have five grandchildren, two living in Halifax and three on the Isle of Man.
“My youngest son lives and works in Tokyo, and we have thoroughly enjoyed visiting him there as well as making shorter trips to the Isle of Man when travel was possible.
“Before retiring I was a secondary school teacher, teaching mainly Biology, but also General Science, first in Sale and Manchester and then in Lightcliffe.
“I enjoyed my time as a teacher, but since retirement I have appreciated having more time to walk, play tennis and read.
“I am also a season ticket holder at Manchester City – a football team I have supported since going to Manchester as a student many years ago!
“I joined Mothers’ Union in 1988 and became a branch leader in 2011.
“I then served as Faith and Policy leader in the Wakefield Diocese before becoming Huddersfield Area President in 2015.
“I face the prospect of being Diocesan President with some trepidation, but I take this step in faith, trusting that God will guide and help me by his Spirit.
“I also know that I will have the support of Trustees, Chaplains, Team Leaders, Branch Leaders and members as we together seek to help families here and across the world through prayer and action.”
Elaine will take up office for the new Triennium at the beginning of 2022.
We assure Elaine of our best wishes and prayers as she takes on this role.
