24 HOUR NON STOP BIBLE READING…slots still available for night owls

Bible readingThere are still a couple of midnight slots left at this non-stop Bible-reading event, Alpha to Omega held at St Mary’s, Gomersal.

Our Diocesan Bishop, Bishop Nick will kickstart the event at 11am on Sunday 14 September. The marathon will continue through the nights with readers each having chosen their 15 minute slot until the last word – expected 84 hours later sometime during the night of Wed 17 September.

The organiser, Trees Fewster-Verhaar, said: “I am extremely pleased with how it has all come together and I sincerely hope that when we finish, it will not be the end, but that, between us, we might have created a renewed interest in the Bible.”

The event will take place under the guidance of St Mary’s vicar, the Revd Karen Nicholl, and alongside Bishop Nick, Bishop Tony Robinson of the Wakefield Area has agreed to do a slot, as has Paul Blakeley, MBE, the founder of the Street Angels project, members of the Mothers’ Union, volunteers from as far as Todmorden and Warley, and more closely from Birkenshaw, Scholes and East Ardsley plus three local councillors, Coun Andrew Palfryman, a former mayor and deputy mayor of Kirklees Coun Simon Alvy, local Labour councillor for Liversedge and Gomersal, and Baroness Pinnock, Liberal Democrat councillor for Cleckheaton.

Trees is still looking for last minute readers and would be grateful for extra welcomers.
