Shadwell appeal for Iraq crisis

This weekend, Anglican and Methodist churches in Shadwell came together to make an appeal for refugees fleeing the fighting in Northern Iraq.

St Paul's and Shadwell Methodist Church met under canvas in a service which focused on the situation for refugees in Northern Iraq. The Revd Dave Young, Team Vicar of the Moor Allerton and Shadwell Team Ministry, said, "Meeting under canvas was a poignant reminder for all of us of the extreme hardship that Yazidis, Christians and other minorities are currently suffering in Iraq. Both churches also gave generously to a collection which will be added to contributions from villagers and sent to the Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East. This charity is based at St George's, Baghdad (Iraq's only Anglican church) which is led by the 'Vicar of Baghdad', Canon Andrew White, and is at the forefront of distributing aid to refugees of all faiths in Northern Iraq (www.frrme.org)
