Skills Camps across the diocese to develop social media

The very first Social Media Skills Camps will be held across our diocese this summer where people will gather to learn and share their social media knowledge.

In this initiative, lead by the Diocese of Leeds Communications team, these special events will bring people together who are familiar with current trends and platforms for an evening to discuss and discover how social media can be best used to spread the Good News of Jesus.

Each event will include presentations on chosen topics and create a space for attendees to work in teams and share their ideas about the latest social media trends.

Richard Earnshaw, the Digital and Social Media Officer for the Diocese, said, “We are really looking forward to heading out on the road to different parts of the diocese to engage with people about the use of social media.”

“We believe there is an exciting and important opportunity for our churches to use these platforms as a means of communicating the Gospel. We therefore hope these skills camps will serve to inspire and energise the young people in our churches and offer a space for creation and innovation.”

Starting in June, the Social Media Skills Camps will be taking place in church venues in the five episcopal areas.

In addition, the diocese are hosting two further social and digital media training days for churches at Church House, Leeds. These practical days, the first of which is being delivered by the Church of England Digital Team, are open for all involved with social and digital media at their church, no matter the age and ability.

Running from 10am until 4pm, topics covered will include: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, dealing with negativity online, writing for the web and A Church Near You.

For further information and if you wish to book a place on any of the up and coming social and digital media training events please follow this link to the Communications Training page.
