Parish Environment Officers in the Aire and Worth Deanery have recently been commissioned to help their churches reach our target of carbon net zero by 2030.
It took place at a well-attended meeting of the Aire and Worth Deanery Synod, where the Revd Sandra Bentham, Area Dean, commissioned the Environment Officers, highlighting the important role they have to play in helping our churches reach their net zero targets.
Jemima Parker, Diocesan Environment Officer, spoke at the meeting, and said of the commissioning: “It was a pleasure to join the Aire and Worth Synod and share with the Synod members a little of the vision to be carbon net zero by 2030.
“It was good to have some time to explore what this might look like in practice for each church and explain how the Six Steps to Carbon Net Zero in the church toolkit could help.
“It’s really encouraging to see Parish Environment Officers coming forward in so many churches and many of them getting upskilled through the Creation Salvation course.
“This public commissioning was a great way to acknowledge their calling to serve in the church in the mission to care for God’s creation.”
