A series of conversations are underway at Huddersfield Parish Church, offering people in the local community the opportunity during Lent to engage with topics of great importance.
The first in this series of conversations, called ‘Lent Life: Conversations for our Town’, took place on Tuesday, March 15 and focussed on the Environment. The evening was facilitated by the Bishop of Huddersfield, the Rt Revd Jonathan Gibbs, and featured a panel (pictured) made up of: Chaley Collis from Friends of the Earth, Patrick Flavin from Huddersfield University, Chris Herring who runs The Green Building Store, and Debby Plumber who is the Huddersfield Area Environment Champion.
There are two more conversations to come. The next is taking place on Tuesday, March 22 and will be focusing on Inclusion. The final conversation will be taking place on Tuesday, April 5 and will be about Poverty and Justice.
Revd Amanda Ogilvie-Berry, Assistant Curate at Huddersfield Parish Church, said, “We are really excited to be offering the opportunity for the people of Huddersfield to gather and share their thoughts on these vital topics for Huddersfield and the people who live and work here. 
“It feels like a very Lenten discipline to be offering to serve our parish and demonstrate that the church is alive to the relevance of the topics of contemporary concern.
“We chose topics that would be relevant and are impacting on the lives of the people of Huddersfield and our first panel brilliantly demonstrated the importance of environment.
“It was heartening to hear the panel of different faiths and none cling to hope.
“All are very welcome especially those who live or work in Huddersfield.”
