How we can get involved in our communities better is the topic of an upcoming joint event in the diocese.
On Wednesday, June 14 the Barnabas: Encouraging Confidence team are partnering with the Wellsprings Together team to hold a joint event, “Encouraging Confidence in Social Action”, which is open to all and is an chance to gather together to celebrate and learn.
The Revd Jude Smith, Diocesan Director of Church Revitalisation, said: “The time together is great for anyone from churches who wants their church to feel confident in getting more involved in their community, and for folks who are already involved but are wondering how to take the next step from knowing people in the community to beginning to walk with them on a journey of faith.”
Theo Sheridan-Watts, Chief Officer of Wellsprings Together, said: “We chat with loads of clergy and lay people across the diocese, getting to hear about the remarkable ways they are serving and loving their communities.
“We want to gather us all together to celebrate what we’re all already doing, and see what we can learn from one another as we seek to grow in our confidence in reaching out.”
There will be an opportunity to hear from the Church Urban Fund about their resource Growing Good, based on a multi-year research project to help churches find the links between social action, church growth and discipleship.
There will also be workshops on fundraising for projects, how to understand community needs, and how to establish and develop partnerships.
The event will be held at St George’s Conference Centre in Leeds, and will start at 9.30am on Wednesday, June 14.
A free lunch will be provided.
