Free hot meals on offer at one of our Dales churches

First published on: 2nd August 2022

Free hot meals for local people and visitors to Settle are on offer at its parish church every Wednesday throughout August to help support families struggling with the cost of living.

Holy Ascension's new kitchen is serving up favourites such as sausage and mash, pasta bakes, shepherd's pie and puddings that are cooked on site and can be eaten in church or collected to eat at home.

Ingredients for "pack ups" - sandwiches, crisps, fresh fruit, cartons of squash are also available. Volunteer Edith Diggles said the church was making the offer to any families who would welcome a bit of extra support during the school holidays.

Revd Julie Clarkson added; “The church community is fully behind this and lots of volunteers have come forward to help make and serve the food.

“The Wednesday meals are an extension of the Settle food bank project which is open on Fridays and we also have some food in the church porch that is available to people 24/7.

“We know people sometimes don’t like asking for help, but this is a way to help those with families with mouths to feed during the summer holidays and all are welcome.”
