Holy Nativity Mixenden visits Park Lane Academy careers fair to talk vocations

One of our Huddersfield area churches has been helping local pupils learn more about what it means to work in the Church.

A team from Holy Nativity Mixenden took part in Park Lane Academy Halifax’s Careers Fair, where church representatives, including a former pupil, spoke with students about faith-based vocation and the wide range of career opportunities available within the church.

The event, which takes place annually at Park Lane School in Siddal, Halifax, aims to inspire students by highlighting the diverse roles in church life, including positions in ministry, youth work, outreach, music, and administration.

Holy Nativity Mixenden believes that a vocation within the church can provide both personal fulfilment and a meaningful way to serve the community.

The Revd Robb Sutherland, Vicar of the church, said: “We have very close links with our community primary school and many of the pupils, including members and former members of our church youth group attend Park Lane once they move to secondary.

“We are excited to see old faces and to meet the students of Park Lane Academy and share the many fulfilling and impactful careers the church has to offer.

“Whether it’s working in leadership, supporting our youth, or contributing through music or community outreach, there are numerous ways to build a career that makes a difference.”

The event is organised annually, and this is the third year that Holy Nativity have attended.

Bailey Wilcock, former Park Lane pupil who is now studying Theology and Religious Studies at York St John’s University and visited as part of the team said: “It’s always great to visit my old school and inspire pupils like me to think about their futures and possible careers in the church.”

Bailey is currently exploring a vocation to ordination having served as an intern at Holy Nativity in his gap year before starting his studies.
